Possibilities of PR in Australia after MBA

Primary objective of international students going Australia is also to apply for a permanent residency as Australia also offers a good quality life as well. After MBA degree, graduates can definitely apply for Australian PR.

VISA 485

This type of visa is a provision for MBA graduates to have a temporary visa under Post-Study work-stream. It makes sense to graduates qualified in degrees relevant to schedule 1 of skilled list. Graduates with 2 years of coursework are eligible in this type. They are issued a temporary visa under 485. Research oriented programs get a 3 year visa.

Secondly, you may go for a 4 years renewable temporary visa under 457. After 2 years of working with the VISA, you may apply for employer nomination scheme. Alternately, you may also apply for regional sponsored migration. This is a region specific visa wherein a regional employer is the sponsor.

General Skilled Migration (GSM)

Another route for applying to a PR post your MBA is GSM.

  1. Skilled Independent Subclass 189 (no requirement of nomination or sponsorship by anone)
  2. Skilled Nominated Subclass 190 (requires nomination by Government of Australia)
  3. Skilled Work Regional Subclass 491 (requires nomination by state / government/relative)
  4. Graduate temporary Subclass 485 ( for graduates of 2 years study program)
  5. Recognized Graduate Subclass 476 (for engineering students)
  6. Skilled regional subclass 887 (2 years regional visa & to minimum work 12 months in that region)

It is purely a point based system. Just a degree in Australia does not guarantee a permanent VISA. More advanced the qualification, higher points you get in the application process. Applicants with higher IELTS or proficiency receive better points. For example, IELTS 7 Band is called a PROFICIENT or IELTS 8 band achiever will be called as Superior. It leads to point difference of 10 points between the two.

And most important, here age is not just a number when it comes permanent residency visas. It has a lot of impact on the visa points system. Younger the better!
