Graduate Management Admission Test more commonly known as GMAT is an internationally accredited test recognized by most of the universities across the globe as a part of the incoming application for their respective business and finance school programs. The examination is conducted by Graduate Management Admission Council or GMAC and is currently accepted by over 2,300 universities for over 7,000 programs as per the official website.

Why GMAT? 

GMAT probably forms the first stage of any MBA aspirant looking for admission in any global university of repute. Since the whole MBA learning is centered around varied experience business schools generally prefer students from different backgrounds. These backgrounds may have differences not only in field of study but also nationalities. Thus GMAT provides a common platform for any admission committee to judge academic background of students all across at a common level. The exam is specifically designed to evaluate students on topics that are critical to success for any business leader. The exam is divided into four sections:

  • Analytical Writing Assessment: Designed to measure students’ ability to think critically and to communicate their ideas
  • Integrated Reasoning: Designed to measure students’ ability to analyze data and evaluate information presented in multiple formats
  • Quantitative Reasoning: Designed to measure students’ ability to analyze data and draw conclusions using reasoning skills
  • Verbal Reasoning: Designed to measure students’ ability to read and understand written material, to evaluate arguments and to correct written material to conform to standard written English

Scheduling a date

One of the most important things to understand while appearing for GMAT is understanding the timelines. For most of the schools, application timeline starts from somewhere in September and goes on till March and April for Fall intake for international candidates. So every candidate needs to have their GMAT score ready as a part of the application process.

Preparation for GMAT would vary according to individual student and time they are able to dedicate for the exercise. As a result, is it normally advisable to have a good buffer while selecting a date for appearing for GMAT which allows good preparation time and is also well in advance to allow aspirants to focus on their applications. The exam is conducted throughout the year and therefore one can choose the time and date as per their own flexibility and convenience. One can appear for a maximum of 5 times in year for GMAT. The score is valid for 5 years. In case if an aspirant need to retake the exam they can do so after 16 days.

Cost

 The cost for the exam is $250. Also, if the applicants want to change the center or reschedule the test then they will be charged $50 extra.

  • GMAT Cancellation Fee: If you cancel the exam more than 7 days before the test date then you will be refunded US$80. Also, if you cancel within the 7 days of the test date then you will not get any refund. Moreover, the test appointment cannot be canceled within the 24 hours of the scheduled test and time.
  • GMAT Rescheduling Fee: If you reschedule the exam more than 7 days before the test date you have to pay US$60.00 fee. Also, if you reschedule the exam within the 7 days of the test date you have to pay US$250.00 fee. Moreover, the exam cannot be rescheduled within the 24 hours of the scheduled test date and time.

GMAT result

GMAT results are available immediately after the exam. Candidates will have the option of accepting or rejecting the score. Candidates are also asked to choose 5 schools where they can send the score for free. In the case of accepting the result, the candidate and the institutes of choice can view the result; but if the candidate declines the result none of the parties will be able to view the result of GMAT.

Once the exam is over, candidates can download the non-official GMAT result. Finally, the candidates receive the complete GMAT Score Report within 20 days of giving the test including the AWA Score.
