1. Corporate Finance/Accounting/Treasury

These roles entail managing the books for corporate firms with respect to their day to day operations. This includes things like capital budgeting and capital structure as well as well as working capital management. This also entails capturing of key metrics for internal as well as external stakeholders. They also prepare the financial statements like balance sheets, income statements etc which are submitted to the relevant regulatory authorities.

2. Merchant/Investment Banking

5. Research & Analytics

Research roles include topics as varied as credit research for doing a background check on a debtor to performing economic research for long term policy decisions. Equity research roles are complementary to trading as they provide inputs to traders by analyzing past trends, financial data and key economic metrics. With rapid growth in data analytics emerging fields like anti money laundering systems, stress and sensitivity testing etc have also become a part of the portfolio.

6. Project Finance and Financial Modelling

Financial modelling involves evaluation of investment options by forecasting all line items into the future and discounting them using the appropriate metric to finalize factors like duration of a project, critical milestones according to the timeline, the cost of capital and the minimum acceptable rate of return. Operating and financial leases are some applications of these models.

7. Fintech

Fintech is an abbreviation for financial technology that includes the whole gamut of financial services delivered by leveraging the power of technology. Digital wallets, distributed ledgers/blockchain, peer to peer lending and crowd sourcing are some examples of prominent products in the financial technology space. This field involves a significant exposure to the digital ecosystem in terms of technology and platforms.

8. Venture Capital/Private Equity/Alternate Investment

Venture capital firms are early investors in startup firms which might not have a revenue model that can be assessed through traditional methods of valuation. These firms often invest in these startup companies by way of equity investments or convertible instruments that can be valued at every stage of the future growth. An MBA in finance coupled with a sound understanding of the underlying business environment allows you to understand the nuances of these firms.

9. Consulting/Auditing

Auditors serve as sounding boards for financial commitments and regulatory requirements. They are involved with monitoring compliances at firms by way of scrutinizing the financial statements as well as by a physical verification of assets and facilities.

10. Insurance

Insurance is an integral part of any financial strategy. It involves the hedging of financial risks arising out of unfavorable outcomes. Insurance products are used by both individuals and firms to safeguard themselves against accidents health issues and
